Barbara Inman Beall, Ph.D. was born and raised in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. She graduated from Mount Mercy College with a B.A. in English (Magna Cum Laude), The University of Colorado at Denver with an M.S. in Technical Communications, and Indiana University of Pennsylvania with a Ph.D. in English with Emphasis and in Rhetoric and Linguistics. She taught college composition classes for twenty years and retired in 2009. Since then, she has devoted her time to writing and research with a focus on genealogical writing and research.
